What Is Somatic Reflex Repair?
First of all, what are reflexes?
Our reflexes are an integral part of our inherent body wisdom. They are involuntary, automatic and exist within the primitive function of our brain stem, and are responsible for our survival, growth and development. In simple terms, reflexes are much like a software program that supports the hardware (ie: brain and nervous system) in order to help us effectively learn to interact with the world around us.
Primary reflexes are present during our gestation time in utero and play a significant role in our birth process. They extend their powerful influence as they develop, mature and integrate from infancy throughout our first three years; laying down the neurological foundation for our sensory, motor, cognitive development as well as our behavioral and emotional regulation systems. As intelligent as those systems are, they may need support when overwhelmed. Whether a reflex is functioning as ‘Regulated, Hypo or Hyper’, our primary reflexes continuously provide support in the role of survival and protection. In our sessions we explore the use of presence, awareness, attunement, pacing and creating conditions of safety in order to support automatic reflexes as they show up in response to stress and trauma through our fight/flight/freeze mechanisms
Masgutova Neurosensorimotor Reflex Integration (MNRI) is a therapeutic approach designed to support and enhance the development of the nervous system by focusing on the integration of primary reflex patterns. These innate reflexes—such as the Moro reflex, rooting reflex, and others—are essential for early development, and when not fully integrated, they can affect motor skills, emotional regulation, learning, and behavior.
